DimeTOS:Duplicate Accounts

From DimeWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Multiple accounts for one user are not allowed. One is all you get — or none.

In order to keep down the load on our servers (and on our moderators) and to make it possible to provide better response and support, DIME has a membership cap. To take more than one slot for oneself is against the spirit of sharing that BitTorrent depends on. A person does not need two accounts for access to DIME from two locations or two computers, nor for use of two BitTorrent clients, nor for joining torrents of two different genres of music, nor one for audio and another for video, nor such other reasons as we've heard; one account does the job.

If two or more accounts appear to be used by the same person, DIME will decide unilaterally whether indications are that the accounts actually have different users.

In situations of repeated violation or other abusive excess, we may shut off all accounts that are involved.

DIME use is neither a civil right nor a necessity to life. Denial thereof is not a criminal penalty and does not require due process. DIME management reserves the right to refuse or restrict anyone's access for any reason at its sole discretion.

If you say that there are more than one DIME user in your household, but any of the accounts is in bad standing, DIME may similarly restrict or even disable the other accounts so that the user in bad standing cannot use another household member's unrestricted account but must correct his/her own situation. In abusive cases we may disable all the accounts involved.

If you give us the excuse that you created an account for somebody else, no go. A friend of yours who neither has an account already, nor has ever been a user of an account closed by DIME management for misuse, is welcome to join; but (s)he must sign up on his/her own, doing his/her own typing and clicking from his/her own location. Do not do it for him/her. If (s)he is too busy, too cyberphobic, or too uninterested to register, then (s)he is too busy, too cyberphobic, or too uninterested to use the tracker. Before joining, your friend is welcome to explore other pages in this wiki and other pages on the front-end that are accessible without a login. We particularly recommend sending these links to him/her:

DIME's front page – and – DIME's signup form
the Main Page of DimeWiki
DIME's FAQ – and – the FAQ entry about difficulty registering
DIME's general policies for permitted content
DIME's Cautions for New Users

but your involvement must not exceed sending those links to your friend. You may provide advice but no hands-on help.
